    Kids Love It!

I have used the Imperialism sim with multiple World History classes. It’s a great hands on activity that lets the kids apply what they have learned and see the way it worked for themselves. I highly recommend giving it a shot!

    Students make connections / Easy!

I teach a contemporary U.S. history course to freshmen. I have used the imperialism simulation for the last 2 years. I have used the Imperialism, WWI, WWII, and Cold War simulations. Imperialism is the most straight forward and easiest to implement in class.

The students take a lot away from it, at the base level they get a grasp of the geography and political borders. They see very clearly when the numbers are entered for in the spreadsheet for acquired markets and resources that the relationship is very beneficial for the mother country.

The addition of another map is great because if you had a full class and all the imperialist countries were in play you wouldn’t get through a second round of imperialist acquistion which disappointed a portion of the class.

As you get more comfortable with the simulation you can add other components. This year I added the posibility of rebellion, which brought up the discussion of what elements of society imperialism benefitted.

    Asia Makes a Huge Difference!!
    02/02/2016
The simulation was wonderful before, but now with Asia added, my students get much more out of the simulation. Also, the questions they answer are great reminders of what caused imperialism and the reasons why these countries were so competitive to find and take over other countries. It adds a fun and competitive edge to the classroom environment while the students are still learning.

    Making Connections Easy!!!
    01/04/2017
This simulation was so helpful connecting the dots between major historical content like Industrial Rev. Imperialism and eventually Militarism. Kids were so excited to be country leaders and work together and against one another to conquer Africa.
