Embracing the Final Stretch: A Week of Reflection and Preparation

As we dive into the final week of our trimester, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on where we are and what’s ahead. Following a snow day on Friday and a two-hour late start today, our students are certainly feeling the effects of a disrupted schedule. With trimester tests coming up on Thursday and Friday, it’s crucial that we keep our focus sharp and our students engaged.

World History 1: Wrapping Up with Revolution

In World History 1, we’re concluding our exploration of the French Revolution and Napoleon. It’s been a fascinating unit, filled with pivotal moments that shaped modern history. If time permits, we’ll delve into the Enlightenment writers who influenced revolutionary thought.

Unfortunately, due to our tight schedule, we won’t have time for a traditional unit test, so this material will instead be assessed on the final exam. This approach allows us to maintain a comprehensive assessment of the students’ understanding of the entire unit.

World History 2: Cold War Context

In World History 2, we’re currently immersed in the complexities of the Cold War. Similar to our World History 1 course, we are unable to fit in a unit test before the trimester wraps up, which means this content will also be included in the final exam.

Preparing for the Finals

For both courses, it’s important to remind students that the final is not just a test; it’s an opportunity. In our Level 3 World History course, the final accounts for 15% of the overall grade. This means that even if a student is struggling, passing the final can significantly impact their overall performance. In fact, if they can achieve a passing score on the final, they can still earn a passing grade for the class.

High Standards, Multiple Chances

As educators, we strive to uphold high standards while also providing multiple opportunities for our students to succeed. We believe in giving our students the tools they need to rise to the occasion. This balance between accountability and support is vital as we prepare for finals week.

Encouraging Student Engagement

To maximize student preparedness:

  • Study Guides: Provide study guides that outline what will be assessed.
  • Encouragement: Remind students that their hard work throughout the trimester sets them up for success.

As we approach the end of the trimester, let’s continue to support our students and help them make the most of this final week. Together, we can ensure they leave the trimester feeling accomplished and ready for the challenges ahead.

Happy teaching, and let’s finish strong!
