Weekly Update: 12/19/25

As we approach the much-anticipated holiday break, I wanted to take a moment to share some reflections on our current history lessons and the enthusiasm that fills our classrooms. Today is the last day before we all get some well-deserved time off, and I couldn’t be more excited for my students and myself!

Reassessments and Reflection

I was out sick on Thursday, so today we’re working hard to wrap up reassessments in our World History 1 classes. It’s an important day, not just for grades but for reinforcing the knowledge we’ve been building together. The anticipation of two weeks off is palpable, and I can feel the excitement in the air!

Current Events: “It’s a Wonderful Life”

In our Current Events class, we’re finishing up the classic movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It’s fascinating to observe my students’ reactions to the characters. They hold George Bailey in such high regard while viewing Mr. Potter with disdain. This contrast really opens up discussions about values and the impact of our choices.

I believe it’s crucial for them to see George’s perspective—how different Bedford Falls would be had he never existed. This lesson serves as a reminder that every life is significant and that our actions ripple out to affect others in ways we might not even realize.

Diving into the Middle Ages

In World History 1, we are just starting Module 10, focusing on the Middle Ages. We’re discussing how this era began and what the fall of the Roman Empire meant for Europe. It’s a rich topic that provides a lot of context for understanding the development of modern societies. I’m eager to see how my students connect these historical events to our present day!

Exploring Stalinist Russia

Meanwhile, in Modern World History 2, we just wrapped up Section 26.1 on the Russian Revolution and are diving into Lesson 2 about Stalinist Russia. We’re watching the documentary “Stalin: Man of Steel” while working on a worksheet called “Stalin’s Balance Sheet.” This exercise prompts students to analyze both the positive and negative aspects of Stalin’s long rule. It’s a critical examination of history that encourages nuanced thinking.

Wishing You All a Wonderful Break

As we reach the halfway point in this trimester, I want to wish everyone a fantastic holiday break! Take the time to recharge, reflect, and enjoy time with family and friends. When we return, I look forward to continuing our journey through history together.

Happy Holidays!
